Welcome to the Summer 2024 Proverbs Devotional Series. Every day through the summer, we will have a short devotional related to the Proverb Scripture for that day. In this devotional, we will cover all 31 Proverbs.

Day One

Lady Wisdom Speaks Against Foolishness (Read Proverbs 1:1-19)

It's been too long since I heard my mother's voice, discipling me for foolish ideas, language, and behavior. My mother was among the wisest people I ever knew, yet I often ignored her wisdom and rejected her direction. She spoke of wisdom versus foolishness instead of righteousness versus sinfulness. The author of Proverbs 1 does the same thing; they are attempting to change the hearts and minds of its readers as a mother was trying to do with her son.

Solomon, King David, and many other prophets prayed for wisdom. Wisdom to know what's right, when to act, when to pause, and for the wisdom to know the difference. When was the last time you earnestly prayed for wisdom and the courage to put that wisdom into action? Today would be a great day to start.

It's been too long since I sat seriously, intending to gain wisdom from the Book of Proverbs, so this summer is a great time to do just that.

5 "Let the wise listen to these proverbs and become even wiser. Let those with understanding receive guidance 6 by exploring the meaning in these proverbs and parables, the words of the wise and their riddles."
