Day Fifty-One

The Fools Crown (Read Proverbs 19:9-15)

“Power does not corrupt men; fools, however, if they get into a position of power, corrupt power.” ~ George Bernard Shaw

In a world where the trappings of luxury often seem to validate one’s wisdom, the truth can be startlingly different. The sight of fools living in luxury can be jarring, casting doubt on the age-old belief that wisdom is the true path to prosperity. However, the situation becomes even more troubling when such foolishness is tolerated and elevated to positions of power. History proves this is the case in positions of power around the globe. When rebels without insight ascend to leadership roles, the consequences can be far-reaching and detrimental. Many fear that this is taking place in America at this moment.

The paradox of wealth and wisdom is fascinating. The rise of a foolish leader is a stark reminder of the need for genuine wisdom in every aspect of life. When you observe the political spectrum, you are left scratching your head, asking yourself, “Is this the best we can do America?” It’s like watching a fictional drama, e.g., House of Cards. A better name may be House of Clowns. Why is there a short supply of wise leaders in power? Politics and government seem to attract more fools than trusted servants.

A false witness will not go unpunished,
    and whoever pours out lies will perish.

10 It is not fitting for a fool to live in luxury—
    how much worse for an enslaved person to rule over princes!

11 A person’s wisdom yields patience;
    it is to one’s glory to overlook an offense.

“I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country... corporations have been enthroned, and an era of corruption in high places will follow, and the money power of the country will endeavor to prolong its reign by working upon the prejudices of the people until all wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

Don’t allow pursuing success to blur your vision of God’s pathway to wisdom. Seek wisdom above all else, especially a position of power. Work hard, work smart, and work honestly to achieve success and enjoy life’s journey. It’s tempting to lower your standards and find a more leisurely, softer way to rise to the top, but don’t let that be you; always take the high road, which is God’s way, and you will discover and enjoy success in a spirit-centered fashion.

May God bless your hearing, understanding, and application of today’s wisdom.
