Day Four

The Secret to a Long Life  (Read Proverbs 3:1-12)

If you Google "How to live a long life," you won't find Provebrs 3:1-12 mentioned often. Instead, you will find millions of diets, exercise plans, the newest dietary supplements, and lifestyle changes that all claim to be the best in the world at what they do. They all promise you'll lose weight, feel better, and live long and prosperous lives.

If you seek this question with wisdom, which comes from God's Word, you'll discover the answer and one that works for a lifetime and eternity. Eating responsibly and taking fitness seriously will undoubtedly be embedded in this wisdom. But learning to live a life of humility, self-sacrifice, other-centeredness, and loving everyone, including your enemies, will add longevity, meaning, and purpose to your life.

3 My child, never forget the things I have taught you.
Store my commands in your heart.
If you do this, you will live many years,
and your life will be satisfying.

When you fall short of God's design for living, and you will, please throw away the whipping stick. God will discipline you in his way, not because he is a punishing God, but because you are one of his kids. God disciplines those he loves. As a result of your commitment and discipline, God's sovereignty, you'll discover the secret to a long life.

Not what "can" you do, but what "will" you do, starting today, that will make a difference in how your life turns out? Will you accept God's invitation? Many think it's a secret, but it's only a secret to those who choose not to seek it. You discovered the secret because you are a seeker.
