Day Eighty-Eight

When Chaos Reigns (Read Proverbs 30:21-23)

21 There are three things that make the earth tremble—
    no, four it cannot endure:
22 a slave who becomes a king,
    an overbearing fool who prospers,
23     a bitter woman who finally gets a husband,
a servant girl who supplants her mistress.

Reflection:

Proverbs 30:21-23 speaks about the disruption and chaos when people act outside their rightful roles or operate with selfish motives. These verses point to situations that cause instability and upheaval in life—like a servant becoming a king or a bitter person receiving a blessing. The writer observes how these disruptions shake the very foundation of society. When someone achieves authority without wisdom and obtains their leadership role unethically, it leads to wickedness inside the home and the community.

We see this playing out in the current presidential election. Many conservatives believe a flawed system or illegal voting stole the presidency from them. On the other hand, many on the left feel the previous president manipulated his authority and became desperate to hold on to power. Regardless of your political stance, this situation highlights the wisdom in today’s teaching.

We all face moments where chaos seems to reign, whether in our personal lives, relationships, or the world around us. We often experience confusion, frustration, and fear when things feel out of order or unjust. However, Jesus provides a path through chaos. In John 16:33, He says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Jesus reminds us that although chaos may surround us, He offers peace and stability through faith in Him.

As A.W. Tozer said, “While it looks like things are out of control, behind the scenes, there is a God who has not surrendered His authority.” No matter what chaos we face, God remains in control, and through Jesus, we can find peace even in the storm.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What areas of my life feel chaotic or out of control right now?
  2. How can I trust Jesus to bring peace and order during chaos?
  3. Where might I contribute to disorder or instability, and how can I realign with God’s will?

Next Steps:

  1. Seek peace in prayer: Spend time each day this week asking Jesus to bring His peace to any chaotic areas in your life. Pray specifically for His wisdom and guidance.
  2. Realign with God’s will: Reflect on areas where you may be acting out of alignment with God’s purpose. Ask Him to show you how to bring order and stability to those situations.
  3. Trust God’s control: Memorize John 16:33 and meditate on the truth that Jesus has overcome the world, giving you peace despite life’s troubles.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, I thank You for being the source of peace amid chaos. When life feels out of control and the world trembles, help me trust that You are still on the throne. Give me wisdom to realign with Your will where I’ve contributed to disorder, and fill my heart with Your peace. Remind me that no matter what happens, You have overcome the world. In Your name, I pray. Amen.

This devotion calls us to trust Jesus as the anchor in times of chaos, aligning our lives with His peace and purpose.

May God bless your hearing, understanding, and application of Scripture. Amen.
