Day Eighteen

Wisdom is Three-in-One (Read Proverbs 8:12-21)

"The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." ~ Socrates

Humans are fatally flawed because we desire nothing more than to be the CEO of our lives, the captain of our vessel charting our destination. In essence, we want to be the God of our own life, not just any God, but the God of our own making and understanding.

The solution is that we must immediately terminate our self-appointed role as CEO/God and go to work for a proven source, and that source is the one true God, a Three-in-One God. We must quit playing the role of God in our own lives. Why? Because we are ineffective at best, and our business plan is leading us to a head-on crash with life.

Lady wisdom has been attempting to communicate with us our entire lives, screaming for our attention and begging us to listen carefully and adopt her design for living that works. Why? So we can reap God's blessings and promises for our lives and live the life we were always created to experience.

17 "I love all who love me.
Those who search will surely find me.
18 I have riches and honor,
as well as enduring wealth and justice.
19 My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold,
my wages better than sterling silver!
20 I walk in righteousness,
    in paths of justice.
21 Those who love me inherit wealth.
    I will fill their treasuries.

Solomon's depiction of wisdom is full of color and promises. Wisdom is the Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer, Waymaker, and Promise keeper. Those who die to themselves and turn their life over to wisdom reap countless promises and live happily, joyously, and freely. Their lives will replicate the essence of God, and their lives will please God. Wisdom isn't just a simple formula: knowledge + experience = wisdom. Authentic wisdom comes from God and God alone, and it has always existed, even before the world's creation.

Today's Scripture reading foreshadows Jesus Christ, which the Apostle Paul describes as "wisdom itself" (1 Corinthians 1:18-31). Like wisdom, Jesus has been here from the beginning. God did not create Jesus, nor is Jesus separate from God; he is God. He came to earth fully human and fully God. He is the Creator and sustainer of all creation (John 1:1-4). Jesus declared many of the same things that our Scripture reading says about wisdom (John 14:21-24).

Where do you go for wisdom? What are your sources? Do any of our sources or pursuits include the Creator of the universe? God himself? Why or why not? Proverbs 8:17 reminds us that we shall find God. How does a person go about seeking the wisdom of God? The answer is by effectively praying, seeking, and knocking.

Jesus, a.k.a. God, teaches us how to pray effectively: 7 "Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives. Everyone who seeks finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.

God could and would if he were sought, so seek, and you will discover a power greater than yourself. Accept and reply to God's invitation to dwell in his Kingdom and live abundantly forever in this life and the hereafter. That, my friends, is how to obtain wisdom from the only (Three-in-One) trustworthy source, and that source is God. May you find wisdom (Three-in-One) (Father-Son-Holy Spirit) now.
