Join us for part five of our powerful sermon series based on Frank Viola's book, Insurgence: Reclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom. In this message, Pastor Harold Long of Transformation Church delves deeper into living as citizens of God's Kingdom. This week's focus is on how the Kingdom life demands total surrender, the importance of reflecting Christ's heart in our everyday actions, the flourishing of the Kingdom within the community, and our role in the mission to bring the Kingdom to the world.
Sermon Overview:
In Insurgence: Reclaiming the Gospel of the Kingdom, Frank Viola challenges believers to rediscover the radical and transformative nature of the Gospel that Jesus preached. Throughout this series, Pastor Harold has walked us through key concepts of this Kingdom Gospel, emphasizing that Jesus came to offer salvation and establish a Kingdom that transforms every aspect of our lives.
This sermon, titled "Living the Kingdom Life: Surrender, Reflection, and Mission," brings these themes to a personal level, encouraging us to examine how we live out our allegiance to King Jesus in practical, everyday ways.
Key Points:
Total Surrender: Jesus calls His followers to surrender their lives fully to His Lordship. As Matthew 16:24-25 (NLT) reminds us, "If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross, and follow me." This kind of surrender means that our old ways of living and thinking are replaced by a new Kingdom mindset that seeks God's will first.
Reflecting the Heart of the King: As citizens of the Kingdom, we are to reflect the character of Jesus in all that we do. Colossians 3:12-14 (NLT) urges us to clothe ourselves with "tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience... Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony." Our lives should bear the marks of Christ's love, compassion, and holiness.
The Importance of Community: The Kingdom flourishes in the context of community. Acts 2:42-44 (NLT) describes how the early church thrived by devoting themselves to fellowship, sharing meals, and prayer. The Kingdom life is not something we live in isolation, but together as a body of believers, encouraging and sharpening one another.
A Call to Mission: Jesus gave His disciples the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 (NLT), commanding them to go and make disciples of all nations. As Kingdom citizens, we are called to participate in God's mission, bringing His Kingdom of love, justice, and grace to a broken world.
Hope and Assurance:
This message is one of hope. Philippians 1:6 (NLT) assures us, "And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day Christ Jesus returns." No matter where we are in our journey, the Kingdom of God is advancing, and we are part of something far more significant than ourselves.
